Doctors say if you’re sick with the coronavirus, sleeping on your stomach can help distribute oxygen more easily.

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama – A post will be published online with tips for treating COVID-19 at home. However, doctors say that not all of the drugs listed can actually help treat the virus.

If you are sick with the coronavirus, the post suggests sleeping on your stomach. The infectious disease specialist at Huntsville Hospital, Dr. Ali Hassoun says this is actually called proning and can help distribute oxygen more easily.

Dr. Hassoun said, “We usually recommend it for people with pneumonia with COVID. It has actually been shown to be helpful in improving oxygen delivery and reducing complications.”

The Post says you shouldn’t lean back in loungers for the same reason. Dr. Hassoun says leaning back in an armchair shouldn’t be a problem.

According to the Post, people with COVID-19 should wake up and walk for 15 to 30 minutes every two hours, no matter how tired they are. While walking and moving your arms and legs during the day can prevent clots, Dr. Hassoun that quiet is still very important.

“We really want them to rest at night,” said Dr. Hassoun. “From 10 a.m. to 6 or 7 a.m., you shouldn’t do this every two hours.”

The Post encourages people to drink smoothies made from blueberries, strawberries, bananas, honey, tea, and peanut butter. It is also said to eat certain foods like eggs, bananas, and avocado for potassium.

Dr. Hassoun explains that eating a healthy, nutritious diet can help with immunity, but says there is no one food that can cure COVID symptoms.

The post adds that drinking fluids with electrolytes will help. Dr. Hassoun says people who have COVID-19 can simply hydrate with water. However, if the person has vomiting or diarrhea, it is a good idea to drink fluids that contain electrolytes.

The post lists some things not to be done. It means not to drink anything cold and to avoid drinking milk and eating pork. Dr. Hassoun says all of these are false claims.

Dr. Hassoun recommends eating easily digestible foods when you are sick, but there are no foods or drinks that you should completely stay away from.

If you test positive for COVID-19, according to Dr. Hassoun always good to clarify with your doctor what is best for you.
