Dr. Bruce Mazurek from Sovah Health has a great Father’s Day present: his daughter Violet Mazurek has decided to follow in his footsteps.

Bruce Mazurek specializes in emergency medicine in Sovah-Martinsville and Sovah-Danville. His daughter, a CNA at Martinsville Hospital, is studying nursing.

Health care has a certain family tradition.

“I’ve been practicing emergency medicine here in Martinsville since 1990,” he said. His wife Pam and mother are nurses. “It’s kind of promoted by this environment.”

However, he did not raise his children to study medicine, but to pursue their own interests. Daughter Hillary, 29, works in human relations for Royal Caribbean and Sophia, 21, works for a solar energy company in Asheville, NC

“I knew from a young age that I wanted to do something in health care,” said Violet Mazurek, 23. “I grew up in the hospital, hung out in the doctor’s room” and saw what her father did at work.

During their high school years, she shadowed various hospital workers, the couple said.

She studied Dietetics and Nutrition at the University of Mississippi and also earned her CNA certification. “That got me a job in Mississippi as a home nurse. I went to people’s houses and took care of people, ”she said.
