My unlikely obsession with the Amazon $ 25 Custom T-Shirt
From our point of view, Amazon is constantly developing new ways to make it easier to get dressed. Whether it’s Prime Wardrobe’s virtual personal shopping service or StyleSnap’s photo scanning tool that scans the website for products contained in an image, there are all kinds of bells and whistles to add to your Amazon fashion hunt -Optimize experience. The latest addition to the technology-based toolbox of the e-tailer is an in-app offer – appropriately called Made for You – with which customers can customize a simple T-shirt exactly to their specifications (body type, size, fit, sleeves and hem) Length, fabric and color). As a purchasing scientist, I obviously had to take out the new service for an IRL test run. Scroll down to find out how the process went from start to finish. DashDividers_1_500x100 How does Amazon Made for You work? The process starts with a fairly standard Amazon product page, which is followed by a selection of prompts about a variety of customization criteria. Amazon then directs you to its app – you have to download it to your phone to complete the process – and then things get really futuristic. The app gives you detailed instructions on how to document your proportions for precise adjustment. Place your phone on the floor at a very specific angle, take a full body selfie, and use a ghost figure superimposed on your picture as a guide. (They advise users to wear well-fitting clothing to take the snapshot. I didn’t.) Positioning my body as if I was posing for an airport x-ray, waited for the self-timer beep to sound, and sent my measurements to be analyzed. Was my Amazon Custom T-shirt good? When the t-shirt arrived about a week later I was kind of taken aback. It wasn’t that I expected a terrible product – I just didn’t expect it to be so perfect. (Yes, I know that’s the whole point. Still!) The sturdy pima cotton I picked felt bold but still very soft, and the kelly green hue of the top matched the swatch almost perfectly, that I saw on my computer. In terms of fit, there were no surprises – the boxy hull silhouette was what I picked as my fit preference. The shoulders and sleeves match my arms and shoulders with a goldilocks accuracy that I did not complain about. But someone who was expecting a loose fit might find the sleeves a little tight. The sleeve hit my wrist exactly – check! I would definitely recommend Made For You to anyone who knows their basics and is struggling to find a fit that they like – or really anyone who appreciates a well-made top. A quick, bespoke process, super fast shipping, and high quality product for only $ 25? I really can’t argue with that.
