A rundown fitness center and beauty salon are to be converted into a 15-bed home.
Plans have been submitted to Oldham Council to convert the use of 910-912 Ashton Road in Bardsley into an apartment building.
Definitions, a combination of a fitness and beauty business, ceased trading in early 2020 and the building was sold in December last year.
The former fully equipped Ladies Gym was accessible for £ 3 while the beauty salon offered hair styling, nail treatments, sun beds, spray tans, teeth whitening and even tattoos.
According to the company’s Facebook page, unisex sunbeds were £ 1 for 3 minutes, acrylic nails were £ 25, spray tans were £ 10 and teeth whitening were £ 50.
The now vacant property is to be transformed into an apartment building with 15 bedrooms with a communal kitchen and dining area. Every single bedroom also has its own bathroom.
According to the planning declaration, the new building will “be respectful and reflect the environment”, creating the appearance of a “terrace with living space”.
The red brick building has a slate roof, two floors, a basement and a back garden, which is framed by a 1.8 m high brick wall. A shared bicycle cellar for up to 15 installed bicycles is housed in the garden, and laundry facilities are located in the cellar. The property is also in an area with open green spaces.
The hotel is in the village of Bardsley in Oldham. The application states that the residence will be close to “a wide range of shops, services and employment opportunities”. The location is also close to offices, a church, and a kindergarten.
Adjacent to a bus stop frequented by the 409 Ashton to Rochdale service, the application states that future residents will have access to the main centers of Ashton, Oldham and Rochdale and not have to drive, but additional street parking was available.
Redeveloping a vacant lot will increase the hoped-for visitor numbers to the village of Bardsley and increase the number of customers using local businesses.
The completion of the planning statement adds that the redevelopment will make a positive contribution to Oldham housing supply, diversify the Oldham housing estate and increase surveillance in the area, which will help minimize crime.
