This week: pumpkin seeds for prostate problems
ONCE when men reach middle age they develop many signs of an enlarged prostate. This triggers symptoms such as: For example, needing to use the loo more often and feeling like the bladder is not emptying as usual and the flow is reduced.
Medications that can help relieve symptoms and, in some cases, surgery may be needed. However, there may also be another option worth trying: a handful of pumpkin seeds every day.
“Many of my patients swear by it,” says Marc Laniado, consultant urologist at Frimley Health NHS Trust in Surrey and Nuada Medical in London.
“It is believed that the oils disrupt the hormonal receptors in the cells and thus slow down the growth of the prostate.” Laboratory studies confirm this.
