Award winning nutrition trainer Leah Peters pulls back the curtain and shares how her daily meditation practice has changed her health, marriage, and wellness business.
“I remember getting up late as a kid to write about my day and do breathing exercises before bed to reduce stress and encourage positivity. While I didn’t know it then, I started practicing meditation from the age of ten. It was something I kept to myself, but as life became more and more hectic amid a complicated divorce and festering eating disorder, my attitude towards meditation changed and became fearful, closed and more absorbed in myself than in myself. “

Find your way back to the mindful life
The idea of meditation and soul work can easily sit in the back of your mind, which means that change and transformation are not always spurred on by a lightbulb or an aha moment, but rather by a gradual progression during consistent practice.
Such was the case for Leah, who was 26 years old, when she gave meditation a second chance. It was a gradual process of 5 to 15 minutes of meditation practice that made her feel less like a victim of the “evil” voice in her head. By doing a few times a week Leah regained more control over her emotions and finally let go of anxious thoughts after a decade.
In relationships, we can often be prone to emotional outbursts that we trigger in our partner or spouse. This is because some can find it difficult to communicate their feelings, making them act childish or irrational. Instead of taking a few deep breaths when under stress, this can easily lead to screaming and even crying. These heightened emotional responses were a symptom of Leah’s internal dialogue that was both toxic and depressing. Through meditation, she learned to separate her true self from her emotions and thought patterns and to better observe and transform negative emotions.
Improving romantic relationships through self-healing
This emotional maturity (brought about by increased self-esteem) welcomed massive self-healing and improvements in Leah’s marriage. While her husband was not interested in meditation at this point (which she has learned not to force), he has noticed positive changes in her energy through her regular Zen routine.
When the pandemic broke out in 2020 and fear became apparent, it meant for many to lean even further into meditation. Daily meditations have quickly become a morning and evening ritual to observe your own thoughts, connect more deeply with your soul and source and visualize the future you desire.
