Entrepreneurial STEM students wanted for new PhD students program

Photo by Tom Wagner / Missouri S&T Rolla, MO, Jan. 26, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – The Missouri University of Science and Technology has come up with a $ 300 million gift to strengthen of entrepreneurship and innovation in the MINT areas, a new Ph. DD scholarship program for innovation-oriented students interested in a doctorate in science, technology, engineering or mathematics. The new Kummer Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) PhD scholarship program offers 12-month scholarships and tuition fees for up to four years to qualified students pursuing a PhD. at Missouri S&T. The program is open to full-time domestic and international students admitted to a STEM degree at Missouri S&T. The scholarship is limited to 100 students per year. Students can now apply for the autumn semester 2021. The Kummer I&E Doctoral Fellows program is supported by a recently completed $ 300 million gift to Missouri S&T as of June and Fred Kummer, successful corporate leaders from St. Louis. Fred Kummer graduated from Missouri S&T in Civil Engineering in 1955 and is a successful entrepreneur, HBE Corp. founded a leading design-build company specializing in building medical centers and other healthcare facilities. “June and Fred’s vision is to transform today’s students into the innovators, inventors, entrepreneurs and leaders of the future,” says Dr. Mo Dehghani, Chancellor of Missouri S&T. “We are grateful to the Sorrows for creating this scholarship for skilled and deserving students pursuing PhD at S&T, one of the leading technological research universities in the country.” The Kummer program is different from many PhD students. Scholarships because they serve to immerse students in the concepts of innovation and entrepreneurship with the aim of doing research that will benefit society in practical and applied ways, says Dehghani. “Our desire, and the desire of June and Fred Kummer, is to instill an entrepreneurial mindset in our best and brightest PhD students,” he says. Students interested in becoming a Kummer I&E PhD candidate for the first fall class of 2021 should apply by February 19. A selection committee will screen all qualified applicants, and students selected for the program will be notified by April 12th.
