In March, gyms and fitness classes closed and much of the country got stuck inside with a lot of uncertainty and little motivation. But hope was found as the year progressed: fitness brands took their offerings online, people set up home gyms, and endless exercise platforms were created to help us break a sweat safely. And if the 2021 fitness trends are signs that things will only get better from here.
Rest assured that there are no complicated devices or routines on the horizon. As in most of our lives today, fitness in 2021 is all about comfort, safety, and saving space.
“People want to stay as healthy as possible, but from the comfort of their own home,” says Sylvia Kampshoff, CEO of the Personal Training App Kanthaka. “Just as many people have recognized the tremendous benefits of working remotely, users of home or virtual fitness solutions also don’t want to resort to more time-consuming and uncomfortable training methods in the gym.”
In other words, if we continue to adjust to this new normal, so will fitness offerings. As many top trainers and industry experts explain, they have already done so – and the trends of 2021 prove it. Here’s what to look forward to.

2021 fitness trend: fitness tracking devices
Not surprisingly, a certified personal trainer Justin Shaw, who has worked with celebrities and professional athletes like Odell Beckham Jr. and Christina Milian, says the top fitness trend in late 2020 was wearable technology like FitBit and Apple Watches – and that definitely won’t change anytime soon.
Lauren Jenai, founder of the Manifest app and co-founder of the CrossFit company, agrees. She tells TZR that fitness concepts are moving towards high tech and online options, and wearable fitness tracking devices are becoming more popular and functional.

2021 fitness trend: online courses
As Kampshoff says, people have changed their fitness routines along with their work schedules, bringing them home for safety, convenience, and comfort, and turning to online courses for help. In particular, it saw an increase in live one-on-one virtual training courses over the past year. “We have more than tripled our sessions sold since pre-COVID (both virtually and individually at home).”

2021 fitness trend: yoga
