New Delhi: POSHAN Abhiyaan is the Indian government’s flagship program for improving the nutritional outcomes of children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and nursing mothers. POSHAN (Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nutrition) Abhiyaan, established by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on the occasion of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2018 in Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan, draws the country’s attention to the problem of malnutrition and addresses Mission Poshan 2.0 (Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0) with a focus on the goals of POSHAN Abhiyaan was announced in the 2021-2022 budget as an integrated nutritional support program to increase nutrient content, delivery, reach and results with an emphasis on developing practices, health, wellbeing and promote immunity to disease and malnutrition.

POSHAN Abhiyaan is a Jan Andolan or “popular movement” by including the inclusive participation of public representatives from local bodies, government departments of states / UTs, social organizations and the public and private sectors in general. To ensure community mobilization and increase people’s participation, September is celebrated as POSHAN Maah each year across the country.

This year, while India is celebrating the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the entire month has been broken down into weekly themes to ensure a focused and assimilated approach to holistic nutrition improvement for quick and intense publicity. The Department of Women’s and Child Development has been working with the States / UTs to plan a number of activities throughout the month.

The wide range of activities during the POSHAN Maah year will largely focus on the Plantation Drive for POSHAN VATIKA by everyone involved in the available spaces in Anganwadis, school buildings, Gram Panchayats and other locations. Plantation activities will focus on planting seedlings of nutritious fruit trees, local vegetables, and medicinal plants and herbs. An awareness / awareness campaign for COVID vaccination and compliance with COVID protocols is also being carried out. During the PoshanMaah there will be a special event for height and weight measurement for children (under 6 years of age). Slogan writing and recipe contests are organized to highlight the nutritious foods available locally for pregnant women. At various workplaces for the employees of authorities and companies, sessions on the “5-minute yoga protocol” (Y-break or yoga break) take place, awareness-raising campaigns on the importance of regional / local foods, distribution of nutritional packages with regional nutritious food (e B. Sukadi-Gujrat, Panjiri – Punjab, Sattu – Bihar, Chikki – Maharashtra), Anemia Camps, Drive for Block wise Identification of SAM Children, Supervised Supplementary Feeding Program for SAM Children as an initiative to attacked to attacking of SAM in children up to the age of 5, raising awareness of community management of acute malnutrition and the distribution of nutritious food to SAM children.

During the PoshanMaah, nutritional awareness related activities will be carried out in all states / UTs down to the grassroots level, primary health centers, community health centers, education and literacy department through schools, Panchayati Raj departments through panchayats, and rural development through support groups will conduct the activities and embassy Spread the holistic diet throughout the month to create a healthier future for women and children.

PoshanAbhiyaan was founded with a noble and holistic goal and its overall aim is to increase nutritional awareness and responsiveness in mothers of young children, adolescent girls, pregnant and breastfeeding women, family members including husbands, fathers, mother-in-law community members, health care providers (ANM, ASHA, Anganwadi workers) about vital nutritional behavior. The POSHAN Maah intends to achieve the holistic goals of PoshanAbhiyaan quickly and in a harmonized way.
